Why I Interview

Recently, I was asked to interview a person whom I did not know. Growing up as a shy girl, this was a whole new realm for me. The act of asking questions and even the thought of initiating a conversation scared me. However, let’s take a step back. When I hear the word “interview” for some reason I automatically relate it to a job interview. Now, I know that as an employer you interview a person to see if they’re worthy of this position. Yet, to interview a person which isn’t related to a job leaves me in a daze. Why do we interview?

There are many reasons. From simple self interest to an intense research project, the reasons varies. Though, these reasons varies. Ultimately, in the end they all have similar if not the same reasons. Which would be to learn more about a specific topic. To relate this to myself, for me, I have to interview a person, write a paper, and hopefully get a good grade out of it. In my class I drew a note card. On this note card it had a guy’s name who so happens to be a trainer and an owner of a mixed martial arts facility. With this interview I hope to find out more about this person and what he does. Though I may not know much about him now, through the process of an interview I shall be enlightened in the ways of being a mix martial artist.

What I hope to get out of this interview is to learn more about mixed martial arts and this building next to Paradigm which I so happen to go often to. To widen my aspect of the fighting culture, I aspire to see this world from another person’s viewpoint vicariously. Also, maybe in the end, who knows I might even take part and join this facility.
